What makes you stand out as a clinic?
The founder of Plato is Dr. Wim Kes who was awarded the ‘Best Chiropractor of The Netherlands (Europe)’ in 2014. The reason for this was that Dr. Kes was not only very good at getting the right diagnosis, he also achieved the most successful results with his specific treatment techniques. He was also awarded ‘The Flavio Grillo Price (Best Clinical Chiropractor Of The Year)’ in 2000 during his Final Academic Year in the UK. Amongst the many different reasons behind the success of his clinic, one that truly stands out is that they use the ‘Kes Method’, which is a manual treatment method, which Dr. Kes developed more than 18 years ago, and is only used in the Plato Chiropractic Health Clinics.
Our clinic has the passion and ambition to deliver top performances in the field of health care. After the diagnosis, we explain the causes of the problems faced by the patient, and then formulate an extensive treatment program, including rehabilitation and prevention. Can you tell us about a success story where you treated a particularly difficult case?
A 46-year-old male suffered from severe right-sided low back and leg pain. Having a seated job he could not sit for more than 10 minutes after which he had to stand up and walk around t0 ease the pain a little bit. The injury was caused when he fell off his bike when he was 16 years old. He was seen by more than 15 health professionals over the years and no single treatment had reduced his symptoms. After a thorough examination, he was diagnosed with a significant right-sided SI joint dysfunction. After 7 specific chiropractic treatments for the first time in all those years, he was pain-free.
How do you keep up to date with the latest research and technology?
Dr Wim is much involved with the chiropractic association in his home country the Netherlands, the United Arab Emirates and the UK and follows all the relevant research and literature studies regarding spinal and musculoskeletal issues and developments. He also has to stay up to date by following the required postgraduate courses.
As a clinic, you are engaging in patient feedback with Doctify – what importance do you place on patient feedback?
Patient feedback is very important to be able to improve the quality of the doctors and the clinic.
How do you think the wider medical field is adapting to a more connected and informed patient?
In Dubai, sometimes patients are over-diagnosed, overtreated and overprescribed medication. It’s often money-driven instead of patient-centred. For example, when taking Xrays of the lower back a patient has double the chance to develop a disability. When taking a MRI this is even threefold. Many X-rays and MRI’s are unnecessary. There are some doctors in Dubai that might not stick to the international guidelines, but the doctors at Plato Chiropractic Health Clinic do.
