We are committed to the environment

Dedicated to being a better-for-the-world business

Our mission is to save 60,000 trees by 2025

While we don’t have all the answers, we are certainly asking the right questions. Doctify is creatively and critically thinking about how to be as green as possible.

Taking the right steps forward

Digitising reviews

We help healthcare and social care to digitise their review collection. We save tens of thousands of pieces of paper every few months by reducing their use of paper forms, letters and envelopes for feedback.

Lean with data

We know that unused data negatively impacts the environment by consuming a lot of energy. We critically look at our data to make sure we only keep what is necessary to reduce the carbon footprint of digitalisation.

Paper-free

We are 98% paper-free. All our sales materials, employee handbooks and contracts are sent out digitally.
We do everything we can to avoid using paper by always pushing for the digital route.

A green office

95% of our furniture is upcycled. We want to have a stylish and comfortable office without buying new furniture. We have strict recycling policies in our offices to avoid waste and help employees make the right decisions.

Conscious travelling

Most of our meetings are held virtually. We encourage our employees to use public transport, and we are actively taking part in the cycling to work scheme. We have also shifted to a hybrid working model to reduce our carbon footprint.

Our sustainability ambassadors

"Everything you do on a daily basis has an impact on the world around you. It's up to you to decide what type of impact you want to make. Sometimes, solving big problems, starts by making small changes."

– Matt Johnson Business Operations Associate

"An investment isn't an investment if it destroys our planet. Its time to start putting the health of our planet at the core of everything we do."

– Luke Dodunski Customer Success Manager

"We can't change the world unless we change ourselves. If we want the future generation to have a sustainable life, we have to change the way we are. It starts with us, now."

Igor explains our sustainable data storage

Many companies don’t realise how data storage impacts the environment. We know that to make a real difference, we need to engage our entire team. Doctify’s CTO, Igor Stelmashenko, explains how the use of cloud computing can cut our carbon emissions even more.

Igor explains our sustainable data storage

Many companies don’t realise how data storage impacts the environment. We know that to make a real difference, we need to engage our entire team. Doctify’s CTO, Igor Stelmashenko, explains how the use of cloud computing can cut our carbon emissions even more.

How does data storage affect the environment?

Igor: Using physical hard drives to store data requires a lot of power. Switching to cloud-based services help us reduce our carbon footprint and save energy. Due to highly utilised infrastructure, public cloud servers tend to be 2 to 4 times more efficient than traditional data centres. At Doctify, our server infrastructure is 100% on the cloud and 100% shared or virtualised. It also helps us avoid having a device that, once broken, becomes e-waste, which is a growing global problem.

What does Doctify’s technology team do to reduce data storage?

Igor: Large data storage pools have significant power needs, so we are continually purging old, unused or redundant data, logs, backups and so on. We add additional servers automatically when more processing is required, and we automatically scale it down when not used.

What do you and your team do to promote sustainability?

Igor: About 50% of the technology team is cycling to work or using bicycles to get around instead of driving or using public transportation. Most of the work is done remotely, including virtual meetings and virtual summits. A globally distributed team flying people from place to place for meetings can burn thousands of litres of fuel. Nowadays, even the most efficient aeroplane fuel consumption is usually around 30 to 40 litres per passenger per 1000 kilometres. You can easily avoid burning 3-4 (!) barrels of aeroplane fuel by choosing to have a virtual meeting instead.

We are also continuously educating our team on all sustainability factors of computing. For example, one team member used 80% solar power to power personal computers for the entire month. While not always practical (cloudy and rainy days), this was an exciting example of what is possible if we only try.

Our green Halloween

Doctify’s Alice and Karan were tasked with decorating for our Halloween party. They helped us to stay mindful and make eco-friendly choices, choosing sustainable and plastic-free decorations.

How challenging was it to find sustainable Halloween decorations?

Alice: We found it really hard at the beginning, because most decorations you find are unsustainable and create a lot of extra garbage as they are single-use items.

How did you avoid buying plastic decorations?

Alice: We used natural items, like pumpkins, to create a spooky décor. We did a carve-out competition to make it even more fun. Plus, we didn’t have to worry about throwing our decorations out at the end of the night. There are so many creative ways of reusing pumpkins, and they are compostable.

Karan: It’s a bit more work to come up with sustainable decorations than simply buying ready-made ones, but we made it fun. We knew that the extra effort was worth it to keep our Halloween party as eco-friendly as possible. Alice created bats and roses out of recyclable paper, and we incorporated chocolates as a part of our decorations to make the place stand out more
