Dr. Shih-Ern Yao is a gynaecological oncologist with extensive expertise in managing, treating, and preventing gynaecological cancers. His specialisation includes complex gynaecological surgeries, particularly in minimally invasive laparoscopic and robot-assisted techniques.

Dr. Yao began his medical career by graduating with honours from the University of Western Australia with an MBBS degree. He undertook specialist training in obstetrics and gynaecology at King Edward Memorial Hospital in Perth, Australia, starting in 2010. To further hone his skills, he moved to Melbourne and completed advanced training at Monash Health, culminating in fellowship with the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RANZCOG) in 2016.

Over the next six years, Dr. Yao pursued subspecialist fellowships both interstate and internationally, enhancing his clinical expertise. He completed clinical surgical fellowships at Monash Health in Melbourne, the Queensland Centre for Gynaecologic Cancer in Brisbane, QLD, and the prestigious Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust in London, UK. During this period, he also obtained a Graduate Certificate in Palliative Care from Flinders University in 2017. His Certification in the Subspecialty of Gynaecological Oncology was awarded in 2020, recognising his advanced skills in this complex field.

Currently, Dr. Yao holds a consultant position at Monash Health and serves as an Adjunct Senior Lecturer at Monash University. He is actively involved in training and supervising medical students, junior medical staff, as well as trainees and fellows from RANZCOG. Dr. Yao is dedicated to expanding research in gynaecological oncology, participating in clinical trials both nationally and internationally to advance treatment options and outcomes for patients.
