Dear Mr Phillips (Ali) Wow! what a difference, thanks Ali. After having had four or five years of almost constant pain and having had several steroid injections, taking pain relief medication and wearing support splints when the pain was at its worse, finally the pain has been relieved. Thanks to Mr Ali Phillips, from the first consultation with Ali I was put at ease, Ali explained to me the options, including his preferred (arthroplasty) which he explained in detail and also showed me the thumb replacement joint he intended to use. I was awake as the operation (I think its called a nerve block) was performed not having to have a general anaesthetic (I never felt any of what was taking place), it was complete in about an hour. At this point I should say that about a two years ago my wife, who was treated by a different surgeon had the same problem, my wife was given a trapeziectomy. Following the trapeziectomy and after being discharged my wife was in severe pain for the best part of two days. It was several month before she was pain free with her thumb fully mobile without pain. It was very different for me with only little pain for a short period, I was back Bowling (lawn bowls) in less than three weeks. My sincere thanks go to Ali and his team for their care and expertise. I have not had the misfortune to require surgery for over 40 years, I found Ali to be hugely talented with such an easy going manor and highly talented.

When I came in for my appointment I was made to feel that the doctor was interested and had the time and understanding. You feel very vulnerable in these situations at times. But I always felt I could ask as many questions whatever they maybe along the way. Even though I had opted to pay for this procedure myself and the overall experience was definitely worth the final result of pain free and more mobility in the use of my leg. I wish I had gone private earlier. Mr Griffiths fully explained what to expect in the future as well he made me aware of the arthritis and best ways to manage this. It’s definitely worth an initial consultation if nothing else to give you peace of mind.
