I am pleased with my DIEP flap breast reconstructive surgery after breast cancer!

I recently had a breast reduction with Doctor Ghali. I have been looked after by Dr Ghali and his team from the first visit to the end of the operation and even afterwards. Dr Ghali has informed me exactly what I would go through openly: the process and the potential issues I might face after the operation, which I haven’t. After the operation, I have seen Dr Ghali and a lovely nurse, Jane, who looked after me, making sure I was okay. As this is an invasive operation, I will definitely recommend Dr Ghali. He is a professional doctor with years of experience. I wish I had done this operation earlier; it has changed my life.

I had a very good experience with Mr Harris and his team. I was quite anxious about the procedure but from my first consultation I knew I was in good hands. I was treated with sensitivity and kindness and every step of the way was thoroughly explained. The consultations never felt rushed, and all questions answered at length. The nursing team working alongside Mr Harris were incredible and made me feel comfortable and at ease the whole time. For me it was very important to find a surgeon who was not only an expert in their field but also a patient led compassionate practitioner. Mr Chris Duff has done a great job with my recent biopsy, leaving a very small, neat scar. These things are always worrying for a patient, but I was put at ease by Mr Duff and his lovely, caring team . Mr Duff explained the procedure in detail, and possible outcomes, and took the time to listen to my concerns, answering my many questions both before and after my procedure, in a very professional and kindly manner.

Mr William Van Niekerk – a fantastic surgeon. Highly recommend for tummy tuck with liposuction after a massive weight loss. I had an extended tummy tuck with lipo under Mr Van Niekerk’s care in November 2023 after losing over 42Kg (over 6.5 stones). I highly recommend him for his brilliant surgical skills, wonderful care and fantastic results. I’d had a lifelong struggle with my weight - once peaking at over 122kg. But after a huge effort I finally got to a place where I had a BMI of under 30. I'd lost 35% of my body weight - and managed to maintain it. Sadly, this dramatic weight loss left me with a lot of very stretched loose skin and some excess fat remaining in the tummy area and lower body. After a lot of anxious deliberation, I decided to go for it and have surgery to deal with this problem. I was extremely nervous about putting myself through an operation and wanted to be in the best hands possible. Mr Van Niekerk had been featured as one of London’s top body surgeons in a major publication, and I arranged to meet him and some others for evaluation. The other surgeons I met seemed either underconfident in dealing with the amount of work needed after my weight loss, or not particularly understanding about what I had been through to reach this point. But with Mr Van Niekirk I was impressed with everything. The entire process from first contact with his office to the extremely thorough pre-assessment process, our consultations, the surgery itself and the care given post operatively was first-class. He is very thorough in his approach and is clearly a very highly skilled surgeon. He is also an excellent communicator with a kind and gentle manner. His military background gave me confidence too and I could see his precision in action from our first consultation meeting. He took a lot of time in our sessions understanding the journey I had been on to lose weight. He was keen to make sure I was maintaining it before we proceeded. We talked through several surgical options to deal with the amount of loose skin. His amazing assistant Emma prepared costings for all the options - including a full lower body lift. After considering the costs and recovery implications of each I chose an extended Brazilian tummy tuck with lipo (lipoabdominoplasty) including the flanks. This would allow surgical time to focus on the tummy and flanks, while minimising how long I was under anaesthetic and risk. It also gave the option for me to have subsequent procedures later, if needed, when I was fully recovered. Pre surgery The pre-surgical experience was great. Consultation meetings were through and not rushed, emails were always quickly responded to by the wonderful Emma, and no question was too small. I was given clear and concise instructions about what would happen and how to prepare. I had a full pre-operative check-up including ecg, blood tests and an abdominal scan. Although I was very nervous at having the surgery in my 50s, I felt that I had chosen the best surgeon for me and was confident in my choice after doing thorough research. Surgical experience I had my surgery at the St John’s and Elizabeth Hospital in St John’s Wood, London where I stayed for one night. We began very early in the day. I met William before the operation and carefully marked me up and explained again exactly what he would be doing. The surgery went well and took several hours. Over 4kg of excess skin and fat had been removed - a lot of work! William saw me when I came around in the recovery room, and both he and the anesthetist reassured me it had gone well. I was cared for overnight and left the hospital late the following day with follow-up medications and instruction to rest. Emma was in touch regularly during my recovery to see how I was doing and respond to any questions. Dressings were dealt with at the hospital after two weeks. I saw William shortly after the operation and again at three and six months to review progress and discuss what might needed to be done in future. My recovery took a lot of rest, patience and self-care - but was well worth it! After just a few weeks my energy returned and I was amazed at my new shape. Outcomes I am thrilled to finally be rid of the excess hanging skin and apron tummy. My only regret is waiting so long to get it done! My tummy is now almost unrecognisable. I feel so much more confident and comfortable in my own skin. I can finally buy trousers with ease, and my shape looks so natural. It honestly feels as if a huge weight has been lifted from me both emotionally and physically. I wholeheartedly recommend Mr William Van Niekerk for those considering a tummy tuck, particularly after major weight loss. It is like I have finally got my body back - the relief is almost indescribable. I am so glad I trusted him to help me on this journey. The results are remarkable.
