Having managed the symptoms associated with prostate BPH for many years I decided to do something about it. Initially through the NHS, which in relation to providing MRI evidence of prostate abnormality was excellent and the diagnosis of the non existence of cancer (which was a probability expressed by one consultant). However, further progress held out the prospect of a 2 year wait for access to an appropriate prostate procedure. I therefore decided to 'go private' and contacted Mr Neil Barber for a consultation, and to get his view on what I had researched as being an appropriate minimally invasive procedure for my BPH. In the consultation he explained why the procedure I had chosen was not suitable and recommended the Aquablation prostate procedure. Accepting the analysis, I had the procedure carried out at The Cromwell Hospital 3 weeks ago. Post operatively, Mr Barber visited me, and also the following day of my 2 night stay; and there was also support from the hospital should I have needed it. Whilst the fully realised outcomes of the procedure will take up to 6 months, my experience to date is pretty spectacular. I have had minimal discomfort since the operation with no medications necessary, and I am back to my normal behaviour patterns without any difficulties. Mr Barber contacted me by telephone to check on my progress this week and I informed him that my urinary functions are much improved already. Overall, it has been a very good experience, and I have expectations that the longer term urinary results will be equally positive.
