Dr. Akchlass Bazza is an accomplished optometrist with a wealth of experience in optometry and ophthalmology. Graduating from the University of Manchester with a BSc (Hons) degree, Dr. Bazza has since pursued further postgraduate studies and training to become an independent prescribing optometrist in the UK.

Dr. Bazza specialises in various areas, including pediatrics, refraction, ocular pathology, and research. Her expertise in pediatrics extends to myopia control using Atropine 0.01%, where she facilitated the first clinic in the UK to offer this treatment outside of a clinical trial. Her audit results demonstrated promising outcomes, showing a reduction in myopia progression among pediatric patients undergoing treatment.

In addition to her work in pediatrics, Dr. Bazza has a strong background in ocular pathology, particularly in posterior segment pathology and OCT interpretation. She has worked in both consultant-led vitreoretinal clinics and autonomously, diagnosing and managing a wide range of ocular conditions, including cataracts, diabetic retinopathy, macula holes, and various complex retinal pathologies. Dr. Bazza has also contributed to the establishment of a virtual hydroxychloroquine retinopathy clinic, where she served as a lead optometrist.

Dr. Bazza's dedication to education is evident in her role as an honorary clinical tutor at the University of Central Lancashire (UClan). She has also served as the Optometry education lead in her previous role, where she facilitated the learning and clinical placements of optometry students and contributed to the education of junior doctors and ophthalmology trainees. Her outstanding contributions in this area have been recognised with a commendation from the UK General Optical Council.

Recognised for her exceptional skills and contributions to the field, Dr. Bazza was shortlisted as (Locum) Optometrist of the Year in the UK in 2020.
