Dr Karl Almqvist is an experienced orthopaedic consultant at Orthocure Medical Center in Dubai. He specialises in knee surgery, ranging from sports injuries to knee replacement.

He received his medical training at the University of Ghent in Belgium and received his PhD in 2001 with a thesis titled 'Human differentiated articular cartilage cells in biodegradable matrices - Preparative investigations for their use in cartilage repair'.

He then worked at the Ghent University Hospital as Head of Clinic in the Department of Physical Medicine and Orthopaedic Surgery before relocating to Dubai in 2014. Additionally, he is a passionate educator and has extensive teaching experience, having served as an assistant professor of physiotherapy and orthopaedic surgery at Ghent University.

Dr Almqvist is widely published and has written several book chapters. He also speaks at international gatherings on a regular basis and serves on the editorial boards or as a reviewer for leading sports orthopaedic journals.

He is a member of several orthopaedic organisations and has previously served as chairman of the Sports Committee of the International Society of Arthroscopy, Knee Surgery & Orthopaedic Sports Medicine and the Cartilage Committee of the European Society of Sports Traumatology, Knee Surgery & Arthroscopy.
