Solid diet/training regimen - thanks Rick/Jack!

My gallbladder was full of stones and needed to be removed to reduce risk of pancreatitis. AXA had referred me yet again to a consultant who was not a surgeon. I would have had to call AXA and have another appointment with a surgeon but Dr Vasilikostas fitted me in after his clinic finished and scheduled me for surgery within two weeks. He was kind, reassuring and professional.

Extremely knowledgeable! Dr Aylwin has run a very comprehensive screening on my health, he's listened to all my concerns, and family history, and didn't leave any room for guessing, requesting not only the screenings he considered a must, but also the ones which, once done, would put me at ease that, due to family history, we're not leaving any stones unturned and would be made aware of any health conditions, and take on the treatment needed, sooner rather than later. Upon results, he explained with great level of detail all possible pathways to address my health issues, both on traditional and natural courses of treatment. His secretary also extremely helpful and diligent, making bookings and treatment planning as smooth and hassle-free as possible. The reason I chose Dr Rama was that he worked at a top London NHS hospital, Kings College, as well as doing private work. When I first met him, I found him easy to talk to, informative and I could ask him anything. Straight away I felt confident that he was the right person to do this operation for me. Before you have the operation Dr. Rama put me in touch with a dietitian (Kate Walker). I had two meetings with Kate who gave me a pre-op diet to follow, a post-op diet and six weeks after the operation I could start eating normally again. Two weeks before I had the operation, I was given a pre-op. It was discovered that I had very high blood pressure. I made an appointment with my GP and was put on blood pressure tablets and the anesthetist was informed. By the time I had the operation my blood pressure came down to a safe level. I arrived at Blackheath hospital at 7:00am in the morning and Dr Rama came to see me and went through the procedure. I had the operation at around 11.00am. I started to arouse as soon as I came back to the ward but was very dozy, I slept most of the day. The following morning, I woke up at around 4:00am and with the help of a very nice nurse I got out of bed and went for a walk. To my surprise I felt fine and not in any pain. However, I did have about five little cuts on my stomach which have healed well. After two weeks I felt back to normal. I had the operation on the 6 July 2023 and weighed 16.11 stone. I now weigh 12 stone (15 May) and by the time a year is up I should have lost 6 stone. I feel amazing, I am no longer pre-diabetic and a paramedic at my GP’s surgery is looking into taking me off my blood pressure tablets as I’m now in the normal range. My asthma is much better too. Dr Rama was fantastic, he looked after me so well and I have no hesitation in recommending him. He gave me his mobile telephone number and I know I can contact him anytime, which is very reassuring. I’ve had two follow up appointments with him and was given a blood test to make sure everything was ok. I have not felt this well in a long time, just wish I had this procedure years ago. Thank-you Dr Rama, you have changed my life.

For years my father struggled with diabetes and an unhealthy relationship with food, which resulted in increased medication over time and consequently a deep conviction that this was the only way down the line. Previous consultations with dietitians didn’t result in much success as their approach was deprivation based, lacked proper personalisation, and did not cater well for the human aspect. As a result, my father found it difficult to accept and adapt. Dr Filip’s approach, however, was totally different. His sessions are very educational and strategy based which empowered us to navigate the challenging tides of adaptation with renewed hope, clarity, and confidence. Throughout the sessions Dr Filip focused on clearing misconceptions and providing a methodical approach on how and when to prepare and consume meals. All questions were welcome - no question was treated lightly or seen silly, and delicate questions were answered with a highly valued level of detail, care and compassion. Beyond meals, Dr Filip gave keen attention to understanding daily routines and lifestyle and used these to tailor a realistic overall health plan, setting manageable objectives with highest impact one step at a time. Before signing up with Dr Filip, we were hesitant that this would bear fruit. My father is now well into his fourth month since starting the programme, and we haven’t seen him this disciplined before. What I love most is that Dr Filip built good rapport with my father which resulted in him accepting advice and consistently showing up for the sessions, which are conveniently offered to us remotely. Very thankfully, we are already seeing positive results and hope to be able to reduce medication in a few months’ time. We are very blessed to have Dr Filip and we personally highly recommend him for quality care and support.

From the Moment I met Prof Patel at our first consultation, I knew I was in excellent hands. He explained the surgery that I required (whipple) in great detail and answered the questions that myself and my Wife had with great care and compassion and really made me feel a lot happier and comfortable as to what I should expect over the coming months. In hospital, the Prof once again demonstrated to me his passion for, just being one of the best at what he does. Everytime he came to see how I was progressing, still in hospital, post op, he listen intently to how I was feeling, not just physically but mentally as well and showed me so much compassion, love and care, even on Christmas morning the Prof came in to see how I was doing, he didn't need to, when many had finished work for the holiday. I am recovering really well and have huge admiration respect and gratitude to Professor Ameet Patel, I thank you and all your team. Paul D
