When I first visited BMI Thornbury for a consultation, the staff on the general reception and the staff who we asked for help directing us were not friendly. They were rude and blunt. However, on the day of my operation, when we went up to the department I was to be in, it was completely different - every single person I interacted with was fantastic. They outweighed any previous experience. I was first seen by Jenson who was kind and approachable and answered all of my questions. He made me feel very relaxed about the anaesthetic. I was then seen by quite a few others and unfortunately didn't get all of their names (especially after coming out of general anaesthetic!) but everyone I saw was so lovely and caring. This included the staff who were with me when I first woke up and took me back to my room. It also included the chef who came in to give me options about food - he was so smiley! Everyone made me feel welcome. Later in the day after coming round I was seen by a lady called Helen (forgive me for not knowing it but in the hopes of you knowing who I mean, she had a very long surname!) She was absolutely amazing. Her bedside manner was incredible and she showed a lot of compassion when I was in a lot of pain! Both myself and my mum thought she was such a lovely person and I'm very grateful she was there on the day of my op. When I left the hospital (very late that night, about 10-11pm) there was a gentleman downstairs ( I think he may have been a porter or security). Unfortunately I did not get his name, I wish I had, but he was extremely friendly and deserves to be recognised. He was friendlier than any of the people I met on the initial reception desk and asked me how I felt and made conversation with me as I waited for my mum. I hope you can find out who it was working that night and tell him that he made even the very end of my visit calming and made me feel better. (It was Friday 20th March.) A massive thank you to all the staff who helped me on that day, it was 5 star service and I would come back to Thornbury for any future procedures in the hopes that I would have some of those lovely people to care for me again!

I gave the Thornbury 4 out of 5 stars because when I am booked in for my MRI's, I am never told upfront what the costs will be. I do not have insurance and so I feel I need to know upfront what the costs will be. I have attended twice now and each time I am given an appointment I have to phone up to make enquiries about the costs. The first time I attended (2018) I had blood taken but this was not mentioned in the appointment letter and there was a cost associated with it. It would be nice to be given a breakdown of costs with the appointment letter and then I know what to expect when I am later invoiced. Other than that the scanning facility is a very pleasant place to attend and the staff are extremely caring.

The hospital was fine. Could do with more sign posts to departments and as in all hospitals car parking is a bit of an issue.
