Dr Charis Costopoulos is a highly esteemed and experienced consultant cardiologist who specialises in both general and interventional cardiology. His main areas of expertise include the treatment of patients with coronary artery disease, chest pain, palpitations, breathlessness, heart failure, and valvular heart disease. 

He performs a variety of interventional procedures including coronary angioplasty (stent insertion), transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI), MitraClip implantation and patent foramen ovale (PFO) closure amongst many others. 

He currently practises at the world-renowned Royal Papworth Hospital in Cambridge and at the prestigious London-based One Heart Clinic.

Meet Dr Charis Costopoulos

Dr Rasha Al-Lamee is an Interventional Cardiology Consultant at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust and a clinical academic at Imperial College London. She has expertise in general and interventional cardiology. She is a clinical trialist and her research interests are in coronary intervention, coronary physiology and invasive intravascular assessment.

Dr Al-Lamee performs coronary angiography, complex coronary angioplasty and pacemaker implantation at the Hammersmith Hospital. She leads the cardiac rehabilitation service at Imperial NHS Trust in Ealing.

Dr Ricardo Petraco is a Consultant Cardiologist at Imperial College NHS Trust and Buckinghamshire NHS Trust as well as a Senior Clinical Research Fellow at Imperial College London.

He is internationally recognized as a leading clinician and researcher in the field of coronary artery disease and physiology. 

Dr Petraco completed his higher specialist cardiology training at leading university hospitals in London, including the Royal Brompton, St Mary’s and Hammersmith Hospitals.


Meet Dr Ricardo Petraco

Dr. Nijjer is an award-winning Consultant Cardiologist specialising in Interventional Cardiology.

He works at both the Hammersmith Hospital and Chelsea & Westminster Foundation NHS Trust. He is an Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer at Imperial College London and is the training lead for Interventional Cardiology training in North West London. 

In addition to his senior role on the Cardiology Section of the Royal Society of Medicine, he has also been selected as an Emerging Leader for the British Cardiovascular Society.

Meet Dr Sukhjinder Nijjer

Dr Jonathan Behar is a Consultant Cardiologist with a specialist interest in managing patients with heart rhythm disturbances. He works at Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust where he is also a Senior Clinical Lecturer within the Department of Imaging Sciences, Kings College London.

Dr Behar has a passion for addressing unmet clinical needs using novel tools and technologies. In 2022, he was selected by Health Education England to participate in the Topol Digital Fellowship working on the digital transformation of the consent process for patients undergoing cardiac procedures.

Meet Dr Jonathan Behar

Dr De Silva is a consultant interventional cardiologist, at St. Thomas’ Hospital, London having recently moved his NHS practice from the Bristol Heart Institute. 

He specializes in the management of coronary artery disease, looking after patients with chest pain, angina and those who have suffered heart attacks. His procedural expertise is in coronary angiography and complex percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) with specific interests in high-risk PCI, chronic total occlusion recanalization and the development of robotic PCI as a mode of iterating upon conventional PCI approaches.

During Dr De Silva’s time in Bristol he was instrumental in developing a unique pre-operative anaesthetic-cardiology service for patients undergoing non-cardiac surgery, and in the introduction of a care pathway for critically ill patients who present with myocardial infarction (heart attack) complicated with cardiogenic shock.


Meet Dr Kalpa De Silva

Dr Shabeeh BSc MBBS MRCP PhD CCDS is a medical expert who specialises in the investigation and management of heart disease. He is a Consultant Cardiologist in London and his NHS practice is based at one of London’s premier teaching hospitals, King’s College Hospital and Croydon University Hospital. He trained in all aspects of cardiology at world renowned cardiac centres in London including The Royal Brompton Hospital, Harefield Hospital and King’s College Hospital.

Dr Shabeeh also has an interest in using modern technology in healthcare to improve models of care. He is currently a Digital Pioneer Fellow with Digital Health London and is working on a project with the Health Innovation Network to increase screening for atrial fibrillation.

Meet Dr Hussain Shabeeh

Advanced imaging refers to a set of sophisticated medical techniques used to visualize the inside of the body in great detail. These techniques go beyond standard X-rays and basic imaging methods. They utilize specialized equipment and technologies to capture highly detailed images of structures and processes within the body.

Dr Ravi Assomull is an experienced cardiologist having been appointed to his consultant post in 2012. He was recruited to Ealing Hospital by the team led by Professor Jaspal Kooner specifically to set up a cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) service. He established the service which was a unique undertaking at that time being one of the only CMR units in a district general hospital. 

He also specialises in coronary intervention performing coronary angiography and stent implantation. His specialist training in advanced cardiac imaging during his research period enhances his interventional practice by guiding and refining the interventional procedures he undertakes. By using these complementary skills, he ensures his patients only receive invasive therapy when there is robust evidence that they will benefit from it.

Dr Sen's research interests involve both first-in-man and larger multi-centre clinical trials. His research has been published in the leading medical journals and has changed clinical practice around the world.

Dr Sayan Sen Explains Hypertension

Ablation refers to the removal or destruction of tissue, often done using various techniques like heat, cold, radiofrequency energy, lasers, or chemicals. Cardiac Ablation procedure is used to treat heart rhythm disorders, such as atrial fibrillation. It involves using energy (often radiofrequency or cryotherapy) to destroy small areas of heart tissue that are causing irregular electrical signals, which can help restore a normal heart rhythm. 

Dr Fakhar Khan is a Consultant Cardiologist, with a specialist interest in the management of patients with heart rhythm disorders. He is based at the Barts Heart Centre part of St Bartholomew’s Hospital, one of the largest cardiovascular units in Europe, and at the Royal Free Hospital in Hampstead.

Dr Fakhar Khan Explains Cardiac Ablation

Pacemakers are small medical devices that help regulate the heartbeat. They are used when a person's heart is beating too slowly or irregularly, a condition called bradycardia or arrhythmia. The pacemaker sends electrical signals to the heart to maintain a normal heart rate and rhythm.

Dr Fakhar Khan is a Consultant Cardiologist, with a specialist interest in the management of patients with heart rhythm disorders. He is based at the Barts Heart Centre part of St Bartholomew’s Hospital, one of the largest cardiovascular units in Europe, and at the Royal Free Hospital in Hampstead.

He gained his medical degree from the University of Cambridge in 1999. Subsequent to this, he pursued his training in General Medicine and Cardiology in Oxford, London and then Cambridge, at Papworth Hospital and Addenbrooke's Hospital. He then furthered his training in Canada, where Dr Khan was awarded the Mirium L Burnett Fellowship in Electrophysiology and Devices in Toronto, working with some of the leading experts in the field.
