Dr Bourne graduated in medicine in 1966 at the Royal London Hospital. After working as a hospital doctor, he entered general practice. His interest in integrative medicine began in 1982, when an NHS patient with very high blood pressure (malignant hypertension), who had not been helped by conventional medical treatment, was eventually helped by a doctor who used vegatest technology (bioresonance medicine) to diagnose and treat him for dental mercury poisoning. Dr Bourne studied vegatesting at The Centre for the Study of Complementary Medicine in Southampton and subsequently introduced the technology in a small way into his NHS general practice.
During retirement from general practice, he gained an honours diploma in homotoxicology (modern homoeopathy) and currently practices integrative (combined approach to naturopathic medicine) medicine in Finchley, North London.
He mostly specialises in treating chronic medical conditions that have not responded to conventional treatment. Examples include irritable bowel syndrome, autoimmune conditions, chronic fatigue syndrome, chronic dermatitis and anxiety/depression. Additional information is available on the clinic website - www.vegatest.info.
Dr Bourne has been a guest lecturer at the British Society of Homeopaths and at the Biomedical Centre in London.
