Dr Saxena received his medical degree from Charing Cross and Westminister Medical School, as well as an intercalating honours degree in Pharmacology. He completed his specialised training at a number of London hospitals before joining Greenwich District Hospital as a consultant in 2000. He now works at Queen Elizabeth Hospital (part of the Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust).
He has authored multiple peer-reviewed academic publications with special research interests in oesophageal diseases, reflux disorders, and swallowing issues. He is the current Chairman of the Medical Staff Committee at his NHS trust.

I have been a patient of Dr Vishal Saxena for about 7 years now and he is very easy to talk with. He has explained to me thoroughly every step of the way from the illness I am suffering from to the medication that has been prescribed for me and he will make sure I understand everything properly. When I am nervous Dr Saxena has a very calm approach and makes me feel relaxed especially when having a colonoscopy done. Dr Saxena is very helpful, patient, very caring and pleasant always ready to answer your questions. I still have occasional flare ups and when I email his secretary about my condition some one from the team will always contact me via telephone and talk with me and/or reassure me. I am very happy and pleased with Dr Saxena being my consultant. He is one of the best consultants I have and the Gastro team under Dr Saxena are equally good.

Dr Saxena makes you feel like a valued patient who is listened too. He offers excellent advice and takes on board how you are feeling when thinking about next steps. His door as they say is always open. His Secretary Elaine is also a tower of support, making sure she informs Dr Saxena when you are going through a flare up/ tough time. They both always reply to any query that they are asked for advice about. I ant fault the service they both give.

Dr Saxena is one the best Consultants I've had, he is very understanding, patient and very thorough in carrying out his prognosis prior to his diagnostics.
