If I may ask a further question; we were quite surprised that dialysis isn’t necessary until GFR drops to 6. My mum is worrying that this is due to her age. Prior to seeing you I had thought that dialysis would be given at around GFR 15/stage 5 as was the case with my Father’s CKD 25 years ago (in fact he started while he was still in Stage 4) but I understand that criteria can change with time and every case is different, according to symptoms and blood test results. I’m trying to allay her fears saying that she is lucky she doesn’t need it yet but she is fixated on this subject now and is convinced she should be starting dialysis very soon. I recently had an initial appointment with Dr. Farid Ghalli - it couldn’t have went better. He’s extremely knowledgable in Nephrology along with other integral PKD related topics. In addition to the above, he also has a very good calming energy and bedside manner which helped immensely as I've been feeling a lot of stress about my current PKD condition. We discussed a plan of his recommended next steps which we're already starting to move forward with.
