I am a Consultant ENT, Head and Neck Surgeon based in Bristol, providing comprehensive care for a wide range of ear, nose and throat conditions in both adults and children. I have a subspecialist expertise lies in the management of benign and malignant head and neck conditions, including thyroid and parathyroid disease.
I completed a highly competitive, year-long fellowship in advanced head and neck oncology and robotic surgery at Oxford University Hospitals, gaining specialist experience in complex oncological and minimally invasive surgical techniques.
I currently works at University Hospitals Bristol, where I am a core member of the Head and Neck and Thyroid Multidisciplinary Teams. In this role, I collaborate closely with oral and maxillofacial surgeons, plastic surgeons, oncologists, radiologists, speech and language therapists, dietitians and specialist cancer nurses to deliver tertiary-level care for complex head and neck and thyroid patients across the South West region.
Alongside my clinical practice, I have a strong academic and research background. I have authored over 20 peer-reviewed publications, contributed to three textbook chapters, and been involved in the development of UK clinical guidelines for head and neck cancer management. I hold an MSc in Surgical Sciences from the University of Edinburgh and an MD (Res) from St George’s University, focusing on minimally invasive parathyroid surgery and patient-reported outcomes.
I am a regular reviewer for the Journal of Laryngology and Otology and has delivered over 40 national and international conference presentations.

Information was very clear. I felt I had lots of time to ask any questions. I felt I was listened too.
From the moment we walked in, the experience was outstanding. What truly stood out was how Dr. Ishii interacted with our son. He didn’t just talk to us; he made a point of speaking directly to him, explaining what was happening in a clear, respectful way that a 12-year-old could appreciate. He even had a bit of a laugh with him, which immediately put him at ease and made him feel involved in the decisions about his own health. As a parent, I felt completely listened to. Dr. Ishii took the time to explain the diagnosis, the pros and cons of different treatment options. He answered all of our questions with patience and didn’t make us feel rushed. The admin staff were very helpful and the waiting times were short. Thank you very much!
I visited Mr Hirotaka Ishii for help with blocked ears and tinnitus following a heavy cold. My condition was very quickly diagnosed as Eustachian tube disfunction. Mr Hirotaka Ishii was very helpful, polite, understanding and very professional. I felt he completely understood how I felt which put me at ease. Thank you.
I found my recent visit very good. Mr Ishii was very informative and I found that extremely reassuring. I feel much better about my situation now. Thank you
I found Mr Ishii to be very professional, honest and very reassuring but also really friendly and comforting. I would definitely recommend anyone who is very anxious about visiting a consultant to be reassured that he will be clear in his explanations and offer his very best attention and examination.
The consultation went well and was helpful and information.
After seeing multiple GP's from my location practice and getting no joy or results for over a year , I decided to go and see Dr Ishii. He was amazing, he actioned tests and scans as quick as possible and thanks to Dr Ishii we can now start finding out what can be done regarding my cancer, or what can't for that matter, but I cant thank him enough for getting this process moving. He is a real champ, and so happy to have gone to see him. He actually cared and had that caring sense of urgency to get things going.
I was offered a call from recovery and told i would be called qhen he ENTERED recovery. I was called from recovery but when they were ready to bring him back up and LEAVE recovery. I waited nearly two hour to here word on an opetation estimated to take about 10-20mins. Waiting for that call caused alot of anxiety. It woukd have been better if it jsfnt been offered because it was not proptly executed.
Mr Ishii explained everything really well and made it very easy to understand. He was considerate about our opinions and what was best for our little boy.
