About Dr Ilaria Bonoldi
Dr Ilaria Bonoldi is a Consultant Psychiatrist at South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust and an Honorary Clinical Research Fellow at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience (IoPPN), King’s College London, and the University of Pavia, Italy. She works within the Treatment Review and Assessment Team (TREAT), a specialist service for patients with complex psychiatric and physical comorbidities, difficult-to-manage side effects and treatment-resistant psychosis.
Dr Bonoldi trained in psychiatry at the University of Pavia, completing part of her training at the Department of Psychosis Studies at King’s College London. After obtaining higher specialist certification in General Adult Psychiatry in Italy, she completed a PhD in collaboration with the University of Pavia and IoPPN, focusing on early detection and treatment of psychiatric disorders in young people. She subsequently contributed to the development of early psychosis services in Croydon and Lewisham.
Her research has examined neurobiological mechanisms underpinning major mental disorders, and she has published over 50 peer-reviewed papers. In 2019, she was recognised in the Clarivate Highly Cited Researchers database.
Alongside her NHS role, Dr Bonoldi teaches on the Maudsley Training Programme, the IoPPN MRCPsych course, and postgraduate programmes at the University of Pavia. She also undertakes detailed ADHD assessments as part of her clinical practice.
