Professor James Myerscough is a consultant ophthalmic surgeon specialising in complex cataract surgery and corneal transplantation. His extensive training took place at various renowned centres across the UK, including a fellowship in cornea and laser-assisted cataract surgery at Cambridge University NHS Hospital. Driven by his passion to enhance visual outcomes, he further honed his skills in Italy, where he learned advanced techniques under the guidance of Professor Massimo Busin, a global leader in the field.
Back in the UK, Professor Myerscough has seamlessly integrated these cutting-edge techniques into his practice, benefiting local patients. His commitment to advancing ophthalmic care is evident through his active involvement in research, consistently publishing in prestigious scientific journals on novel techniques in corneal transplantation. He also plays a pivotal role in education, supervising a corneal fellowship program at Southend NHS, where international candidates undergo comprehensive training.
Internationally recognised, Professor Myerscough lectures globally and conducts surgical courses across Europe through the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons. His patient care philosophy revolves around providing personalised services tailored to individual needs, with a special emphasis on reducing reliance on spectacles following cataract surgery. In the clinic, he prioritises thorough understanding of each patient's visual challenges and preferences, ensuring informed discussions about their customised treatment plans.

I would like to thank Mr Myerscough for his time and care that he took with me during my surgery . I was very nervous and he was very patient
Professor Myerscough was very thorough and made me feel at ease at surgery
The last time I saw Professor Myers ought he did my cataract for me. Very kind just beforehand, put me at ease and my eye is so much better now.
I went back for an appointment at the hospital after my cataract being done because my optician was slightly concerned about the back of my eye. I didn’t see Professor James myerscough I saw another professor whose name I don’t remember he said to my eye was perfectly okay, but then he went on to say that I couldn’t have my other eye done because it wasn’t bad enough. I’m a little bit confused as Professor James Myerscough had said that he would do the other eye so I have only had one eye done I’m going to go back to my optician and speak to them. I did have another appointment booked for the 3rd of November with James Myerscroft, but the professor I saw cancelled it please advise.

Good evening, Thank you for your message. Please call the hospital tomorrow , direct on 01702 608908, ask to speak to Professor Myerscoughs secretary.
