Mr John Machin is a highly skilled orthopaedic surgeon specialising in hip and knee surgery, with expertise spanning primary and revision joint replacement, arthroscopic knee procedures, and the management of lower limb trauma. John was awarded an honours degree in Medicial Sciences from Magdalen College, University of Oxford. He then graduated with an MB BS from the University of London in 2008 and subsequently completed higher surgical training on the prestigious Nottingham Orthopaedic Rotation. He later was awarded Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of England.
Committed to developing advanced surgical expertise, Mr Machin completed three specialist fellowships across the United Kingdom and Canada. These fellowships provided extensive training in complex joint reconstruction, major trauma surgery, and advanced hip and knee procedures, enabling him to manage both routine and highly complex orthopaedic conditions. Mr Machin has also carried out travelling fellowships at
world-renowned centres in North America including visiting Dr Daniel Berry at
the Mayo Clinic, Rochester and Dr Wayne Paprosky and Dr Craig Della Valle at
Rush University Medical Centre, Chicago.
Alongside his clinical practice, Mr Machin is passionate about technology, innovation, and the use of data-driven approaches to improve patient outcomes and healthcare delivery. He is a national clinical lead for Litigation at Getting It Right First Time (GIRFT), a national programme for improving patient care across the NHS, which is based at NHS England (the management arm of the NHS)and the Department of Health and Social Care. He maintains an active involvement in research and academic medicine, with 29 peer-reviewed publications to his name. His work has contributed to advancements in orthopaedic practice, and he regularly presents and participates at national and international conferences.
