Professor Kariem El-Boghdadly is a consultant anaesthetist based at the Cleveland Clinic in London, where he specialises in airway disorders. His NHS base is Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust, where he is the Research and Development lead as well as the Clinical Lead for Theatres, Anaesthesia, and Peri-operative medicine. He is an expert in his field, with a worldwide clinical and academic reputation. Amongst his prestigious awards include the 2023 Featherstone Professorship from the Association of Anaesthetists, and the 2024 Dudley-Buxton Prize from the Royal College of Anaesthetists.

Professor El-Boghdadly completed his medical degree at University College London in 2007, before undertaking anaesthetic training at the South East School of Anaesthesia. He was awarded the Nuffield Prize for the Fellowship of the Royal College of Anaesthetists and completed fellowships in pre-hospital medicine in Australia and regional anaesthesia in Canada.

He is an Editor of the Anaesthesia Journal and also serves as an expert reviewer for several high-impact journals. Additionally, he is an Honorary Reader at King's College London, and his research interests include regional anaesthesia, airway management, and research delivery. He has hundreds of publications in peer-reviewed journals, including some of the most impactful papers in the peri-operative setting and national and international clinical guidelines, and has authored numerous books and book chapters.
