Mr Max Whittaker is a Consultant and clinical lead in Otolaryngology at Homerton Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, London. He has extensive specialist experience in the treatment of ear infections, hearing loss, ear drum perforations, cholesteatoma, dizziness and balance disorders in adults and children, and is one of the few surgeons offering minimally invasive endoscopic ear surgery. He has a high level of clinical and surgical expertise in a wide range of general and emergency Otolaryngology conditions, and his current practice offers regular adult and paediatric ENT clinics and operating sessions.
He is known for his strong communication skills and formulating management strategies with the patient's best interest and needs at heart. In response to the COVID-19 pandemic he has restructured the department to incorporate remote consultations and telemedicine to reduce the need for patients to travel and come in contact with others, and pioneered the North East London Teleotology programme.
After completing Specialist training across numerous centres of excellence in London and South East England, he undertook a Fellowship in Otology & Skull Base Surgery at Guys & St Thomas Hospitals, as well as Observerships at the world-renowned House Institute in California, and at Toronto General Hospital focusing on Endoscopic Ear Surgery.
He continued to pursue his research interests while achieving a Master Degree with Distinction in Audiovestibular Medicine at the Ear Institute, University College London. This has provided him with specific expertise in Neurotology and the management of dizziness and vertigo. His work has been presented at conferences both nationally and internationally.

Mr Max Whittaker is professional and clear in patient interactions. He listens and gives reassurance, performing thorough assessments that show his extensive knowledge. Mr Whittaker carries out various ENT procedures, including eardrum repair, nasal cauterisation, and intratympanic corticosteroid injections. Max was great from me walking in to leaving. He helped me understand what the issues I faced could have been and was the first person to give me a different answer to the reason why my ears have been the way they are. He was polite, considerate and gentle when doing the suction on my ears. Advised me on next steps so hoping he's right!
Mr Max Whittaker was informative and very polite. I have no issues with his approach however I found dealing with his secretary Branca very unpleasant. When approached to settle an invoice I contacted Bupa and simply went by their instructions to check in with Branca. She often spoke over me , did not listen or allow me to finish my point, to me this was very unprofessional and left a negative feeling towards the whole experience. Mistakes happen in life and she was very quick to play the blame game however it can help if she can perhaps listen to patients and be more polite in her approach.
Very personable and explained everything clearly to me.
I had a fantastic experience wiith Max who was clear, professional, and understanding with all the medical care he gave to me.
I attended an appointment on 13th April 2026. I found Mr Whittaker, to be, calm, patient, thorough in his investigation of my health condition. I was listened to, given clear explanations of possible treatment options. I felt most reassured as a result of my visit.
Overall, a very good experience, clear, precise and receptive to all questions asked, would certainly recommend
Just excellent from start to finish. Kind, approachable, clear and very articulate.
I have a recurring problem. Thought the problem is the ear. I learned it's the Eustachian tube. Actually, I saw it and got an explanation that made lots of sense to me. Finally, I got clear instructions of what I need to do. All very conclusive, clear, and in an atmosphere of trust. Great experience.
Great professional and services. Attentive and care 100%. Lenne D G

NeurosurgeonI worked with Mr Max Whittaker during training. He was a very highly regarded surgeon; highly skilled, knowledgeable, kind and compassionate. His additional training in ear surgery means he is highly sought after for ear opinions on ear surgery. If a family member of mine was every unwell with an Ear, Nose or Throat problem I would recommend they see Max.
