About

Mr Richard Daron Smith qualified with a first class honours degree in Medical Sciences from Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge before moving to New College, Oxford for his clinical training at the John Radcliffe Hospital. Before embarking on specialist training in Urology, he completed his MD at Imperial College supported by a prestigious grant from the British Urological Foundation.

Later in his career, Mr Smith was trained in general urology in West London, and gained subspecialist training in EndoUrology at St Mary's Hospital, Guy's Hospital and at the Institute of Urology at UCH. He was appointed as a Consultant Urological Surgeon to Imperial NHS trust in 2007, and moved to the Stone and EndoUrology unit at UCH in 2009.

In addition to general urology, Dr Smith's sub-specialist practice is primarily the comprehensive management of Urinary Tract Stone disease. He also treats other upper tract abnormalities, including strictures, extrinsic obstruction, and the endoluminal management of upper tract TCC. He teaches on a number of specialist stone/endourology skills courses, and runs a general course for younger urology trainees that he developed when a trainee himself.

From the GP Get:Go - ‘let’s just check this out with a Specialist’ - my experience of Daron ( and his ‘office’ ) was literally remarkable i.e. exceptional. Bobita is his Secretary and she blends friendliness, efficiency & professionalism with consummate ease. She’s ’on it’ to get you quickly & smoothly through the process - and in my case, she succeeded ! Evidence ? From start to finish (‘nothing to worry about’) took 6 days including a CT scan. Daron himself is a totally engaging guy. It’s arguably trivial to comment on sartorial matters, but entering his room and being greeted with a smile, alongside jeans & a red & white checked, open necked shirt was such a diffuser ! And very relatable ! Out then came the iPad and over a good 10 minutes, Daron drew and annotated a sketch of ‘what’s what’, ‘down there’ and we had a constructive conversation. I felt respected, considered and heard. Everything Daron explained or responded to was clearly articulated and at no point did I feel rushed, confused or patronised. Clever ! I opted for a phone call to get my results which I appreciated (no journey in to London for a F2F ; a Zoom call was another option) and at the agreed time, I answered my mobile to hear the first words from Daron ‘Everything looks good’ ! He then very straightforwardly worked backwards until we’d agreed a ‘belt n braces’ follow up in 6 months time. No fuss but no taking short cuts either. I’m a very satisfied customer !
