About Mr Philip Rosell

Philip Rosell studied medicine at Guy's Hospital in London and gained an additional degree (BSc) in the history of medicine and ancient history. After qualifying, he performed his initial medical posts in Portsmouth and at the Cambridge Military Hospital before embarking on formal military service with the Parachute Regiment. He completed his surgical training in Wessex, with some time spent on plastic surgery, followed by a specialist fellowship in Oxford where he was trained under Professor Carr in the shoulder and elbow unit. He also performed some of his surgical training in Grenoble, France, learning advanced techniques in arthroscopy and joint replacement of the shoulder and elbow.

Philip completed 25 years of military service and served on 4 operational tours of Iraq and Afghanistan where on his most recent tour he was able to act as a mentor and pass on some of the military trauma experience to more junior military surgeons. He has transferred his allegiance to the NHS from the MOD and is still employed as a consultant at Frimley Park Hospital.

Philip is experienced in carrying out joint replacements of shoulders as well as performing revision procedures for those implants where required. He also performs both open and arthroscopic procedures for shoulder and elbow conditions such as instability, rotator cuff disease impingement and arthritis and has been a trainer on European advanced shoulder arthroscopy courses.

Philip is a member of the British Shoulder and Elbow Society.

Personable, kind and caring. I have suffered with chronic pain most of my adult life which has often been dismissed as psychological. Dr Rosell along with another consultant at Joint Reaction acknowledged that there is a physical explanation for my chronic pain and I am grateful for their expertise in finding a pain management plan.

I phoned twice to arrange my appointment. Every time I left a message to be called back because the secretary was away fro her desk. She did call back later but refused to tell me what time my appointment was and instead she’ll send me an email with all the details. I never received the email. Complained to both Vitality and Hampshire clinic.

I can only apologise for the difficulties you had making an appointment. I can not give any clear detailed response as we do not have any information on dates or times. There was a period where my secretary was away for a couple of weeks and was being covered by other people.. This meant that messages were coming through with a bit of a delay. I am sorry that you had a sub optimal experience. If you would like to get in touch to address things more directly, I would be very happy to discuss this with you.
