Dr Nicolò Matteo Luca Battisti completed his medical education and specialist training across leading academic institutions in Italy, in the United States and in the United Kingdom, developing a strong foundation in medical oncology alongside a dedicated focus on research, leadership, and health policy.
He graduated in Medicine from the University of Milan in July 2009, where he also obtained his full medical registration and subsequently completed specialist training in Medical Oncology, equivalent to MRCP level, in May 2015. During this period, he gained comprehensive training in the diagnosis and systemic treatment of solid tumours, with early exposure to breast cancer and the care of older adults with cancer.
In 2014-2015, he spent the last year of his specialist training at the Senior Adult Oncology Program of the Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa, FL, USA, where he developed a strong interest in the care of older adults with cancer.
Driven by a strong academic interest, Dr Battisti moved to The Royal Marsden of London, UK in February 2016. He was awarded a Doctor of Medicine (Research) [MD(Res)] degree by the Institute of Cancer Research, University of London, where his doctoral work focused on breast cancer and solid malignancies in older adults. This research training strengthened his expertise in clinical trial interpretation, real-world evidence and continues to inform his evidence-based clinical practice.
In parallel with his clinical and academic development, Dr Battisti has undertaken formal education in leadership and health systems. In September 2022, he completed the highly selective European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) Leaders Generation Programme, designed to prepare future international leaders in oncology, and holds the ESMO Examination Certificate since September 2015. More recently, he completed a certificate course in Health Economics and Policy at the London School of Economics and Political Science in July 2023, reflecting his interest in healthcare sustainability, access to cancer care, and policy-driven improvement of oncology services.

I got assurance that Dr Battisti has carefully studied all the analysis and results of exams I had shared with him in advance and was able to talk about my case highly professionally, justifying his opinions and recommendations.
I would rate my experience as excellent. Dr Battisti was very-well prepared for my visit. He answered all my questions about screening, in detail, and gave me relevant information which I had not been aware of before my visit. I now feel more prepared and better informed for the time when my follow-up breast cancer treatment finishes.
Dr Battisti was kind and patient. He explained everything clearly and answered all questions. He gave hope and made us feel at ease.
Went to discuss next steps following recent tests and came away delighted that I don't need additional medication
My recent visit was great as always. Dr Battisti is always polite and caring . He answered all of my questions.
I can whole-heartedly recommend Dr Battisti. He is a technically excellent oncologist with the most wonderful, kind and genuine manner. I originally came to see him for a second opinion. I was anxious, frightened about my diagnosis and full of questions about how my treatment should proceed. My oncologist at the time was difficult to talk to. She didn't welcome questions and became oddly cagey/defensive when I asked them. Dr Battisti was everything I needed in that moment. He had reviewed and considered my case in detail. He had time for all of my questions and was entirely comfortable discussing every detail with me. I came away feeling reassured and confident that my treatment plan was the best option in the circumstances. I later transferred my care to Dr Battisti. It involves additional commuting time but the quality of care makes it unquestionably worth it. What I value the most about Dr Battisti is the way he combines a gentle, kind and warm manner with serious technical expertise (validated by the RM MDT). He is proactive about arrange additional support for managing the side effects of treatment and he offers alternatives, where appropriate, explaining the relevant research - very much supporting shared decision making. He also offers the support of an excellent specialist nursing team. I want to mention - because it feels telling - that several other medical professionals I have seen at the hospital have responded with genuine warmth when they realise that Dr Battisti is my oncologist. He is clearly treasured by his colleagues and, when you meet him...
Read moreAs I’ve shown my experience was very good. It was a busy environment but care was taken to ensure I went in the right direction. I thought I might get more written information about what the potential trials are for but this did not happen. However, I will follow up.

Thank you very much for the feedback. Please feel free to get in touch with my PA or our research team if you require any additional information regarding trials: I'll be very happy to follow this up.
It was definitely worth coming for a second opinion and very reassuring to find that our hospital was doing the right thing and providing treatment that Dr Nicolo Battisti agreed with. However we have been to the hospital today for the routine oncology appointment and the results of the PET scan. This showed the cancer is now in the abdomen and the registrar is suggesting we commence with Capecitabine chemo tablets. I would be very interested to find out whether Dr Nicolo Battisti would agree with this decision. I have a week to think about it - would he be able to contact me. We have asked the hospital to send him the results of the PET scan. Look forward to hearing back from you. We were impressed with our time at the Royal Marsden. Kind Regards Sylvia G.

Thank you very much for the feedback. Please feel free to get in touch with my PA and/or the hospital admin team and send us the scan results: I will be very happy to review them and send you a letter with additional suggestions/recommendations.
I feel, apart from his clinical and professional expertise, that Dr Battisti 'gets' me and completely understands how I want my treatment to progress. All my queries are answered, and the consultations are respectful, friendly and full of laughs! I feel that I could not have better care and consideration.

Thank you very much for the very kind feedback. This is very rewarding to me!
