In April 2022 Roberto Casula repaired my mitral valve at the Wellington Hospital. Before I was anaesthetised I asked him to be sure to do « some Ferrari engineering in there if you are going into my heart! ». There is hardly a day that goes by when I do not think of him and his 100% successful operation. I will be ever grateful. In November (seven months after the operation), to regain my pilot’s licence, I got through the exercise ECG test (9 minutes to Bruce P rotocol level 4), but the CAA kept me on the ground until April 2023 before finally giving my licence back. To get through the test (I confess I failed it in October) I forced myself to go jogging every day for a month, working up from 1km to 5kms. With determination I succeeded. Later that month I was hiking and climbing looking at glaciers in Patagonia, one day hiking 23 Km and climbing 4000 feet. At the end of the 2023 year, I enjoyed several days of stag hunting on a horse (exhausting stuff!), and a week of testing skiing. In April 2023, I finally got back into the sport I really enjoy - aerobatics. I started off with an instructor just to make sure my heart would tolerate it. Both Mr Casula and Professor Tom Wong, my cardiologist, had said that, after a successful operation, pulling G would be fine from a cardiological point of view. I then did quite a lot of solo aerobatics in the summer of 2023, and I can confirm that both were absolutely right, to my intense delight! No adverse reactions at all from my heart! So I have fully regained my former lifestyle, for which I am eternally grateful. I am having a lot of fun and am in excellent health – at 73 years old, I seem in much better shape than most of my friends and contemporaries. All thanks to a remarkably successful minimally invasive operation. It was truly a great « Ferrari job »!

Pleasant informative experience

I have been seeing Dr Graham Cole for a few years and have found him to be a very good, thorough and efficient Doctor. Doctor Cole’s compassionate and professionalism is how all Doctors should be. I am very glad to have met him.

Doctor Lo Giudice visited me and performed also an ECG and Eco. He answered every questions (I am an anxious person) and clarified each of my doubts. Following a case of pneumonia in 2020, shortly before the onset of Covid, I have developed symptoms of dizziness and also atrial fibrillation soon after my discharge from hospital. I have found it difficult to find someone prepared to listen to me and advise me. Difficulty in seeing or speaking to a GP (for reasons I understand) have left me to try to work out what is wrong with me and why my symptoms, including problems with balance and several falls, have increased over the 4 years. I have had to discontinue the exercise classes I have attended for over 10 years, to my detriment. I thought it could be due to medication and probably the effect of a beta blocker. Dr Lowe has listened to me, advised me and given me a supervised period without a beta blocker. Symptoms of dizziness and unsteadiness increased accompanied by an irregular heart rate and some breathlessness. Dr Lowe has given me a diagnosis which seems to fit with what I am coping with and has referred me to a neurologist in case there is some underlying cause. I am very relieved and grateful not to be responsible for finding out what is the matter with me for a start.
