The nurses at BMI Blackheath Hospital practice nurse had an argument in front of me as the practice nurse wanted to take my one but as my condition had changed for the worse the nurse said no she would. The practice nurse got angry and argued in front of me saying she should do it as she was promised so. This was straight after my surgery. Then the nurses would come and take my one very rarely, maybe once in 2 hours and the next day I had a temperature of 37.8 and I said I felt very unwell and the nurse said I felt warm but she will look for a thermometer as the one she had didn't work. She didn't come back. I called the bell after 1 hour and a half and she very grumpily responded and came and measured my temp and it was high. It then took another hour before she brought my medicine. The nurses would speak in an extremely rude manner. I had a drain tube in my neck after the operation and the doctor said it needed to be removed the next day. The next day, the nurse came in with a health care advisor who had previously changed the sheets to my bed and said that the health care advisor would be removing my drain as she needed practice. I said no and I wanted the nurse to do it as I didn't want to be practiced on, but the nurse strongly insisted and she didn't seem to care what I wanted. The nurse was telling the health care advisor to twist and pull lightly a few times. The nurse was holding my hand and arm and the health care advisor pulled the whole thing off at once and I was in absolute agony. I started crying, I couldn't even scream or speak properly as my voice had been affected by the surgery. The Heath care advisor said 'don't worry it's over now, you're a strong girl'. She then put a dressing on the open wound and the sticker of the dressing was placed on top of my stitches where the doctor had operated on the day before. The nurse said to her in front of me that she shouldn't have put it on top but it wasn't a big deal. The nurse gave me 4 dressings to take home and change myself the following days. I was so shocked. I asked to see my doctor as I was clearly not getting through to the nurses and they did not care at all for my wishes and were extremely rude and the nurse did not call the doctor at all and after a few hours she came into my room and said the doctor had left. I called the secretary of the doctor and got through to the secretary of the doctor and she put me through to the head nurse. Once I explained what had happened the head nurse was quite shocked and she asked me to call the nurse in and ask her to book an appointment with a doctor and have the dressing removed as it shouldn't be there. I asked to be discharged and even though I had a temperature that day, I had absolutely no trust in the aftercare team and just wanted to be home and go to the NHS if needs be. When the nurse came to discharge me I told her what the head nurse had said to me on the phone and she got really agitated. She said she would remove the dressing herself, I said no, she continued to insist and said she did this everyday, in the end she took the dressing off. I have pictures of the whole thing. It is absolutely shocking how I was treated by the nurses at this hospital. There was one nurse working the night shift, who was absolutely lively and she treated me so well and was so caring. However other than her, there was no one else that treated me with even the slightest bit of care, respect or dignity. I was so glad to be out of there. On my second day at home, the wound where the drip was in was infected, when I spoke to the doctor he said that I should have been prescribed antibiotics before being discharged. I was not given antibiotics and I now have an infection on my neck and have had to make the two hour journey to come back to the hospital to see the doctor. All this was because of the lack of care from the staff after the operation. The doctor was great and the procedure went well. I just can't believe that I am now in this position due to the nurses aftercare.

The Blackheath Hospital must be one of the friendliest I have been to. The staff were professional, calm and very helpful whilst I was there for 4 days. From catering to nursing, everything was such that I felt totally at ease and able to concentrate on recovery from my operation. Thank you to all. Michael

I had my surgery for Rotator cuff repair at The Blackheath hospital and was an overnight patient. I found everybody right from the reception staff to the medical staff to be welcoming and very professional. My stay was pleasurable and I could not fault any part of my treatment or stay. Excellent service and highly recommended. Thankyou.
