Very good experience overall

Excellent service all round

Our experience of the Portland hospital was utterly fantastic. The acute care team were thorough in their assessment of our son, upon our arrival. The nurses were fabulous with him, making him laugh and giggle to distract him from some of the tests that needed to be run. Upon admission to the ward, the Dr's and nurses were welcoming, professional and diligent in their care of our son. Our son was also particularly taken with the 'play nurse' who came to visit him and offer him toys and colouring equipment of his choosing! There is also a playroom which can be used by children, although we didn't get to see it. We will definitely use the services of the Portland again. Very impressive.

The Portland Hospital is highly recommendable. Midwives, doctors and staffs are very friendly and of course professional. They gave precise advices through my pregnancy, delivery and also child caring. I felt really safe under their care.

All staff we dealt with were helpful and friendly. My only 2 complaints / constructive criticisms would be: We waited over an hour at 2:30 am for a wheelchair to be found / available (not sure which one) to take me down from delivery to the maternity ward. All I wanted was to get into my room and settle down to hold and feed my baby in peace. The wait at that time in the morning after giving birth was beyond frustrating and the last thing we needed. I was left alone in the delivery room to get some sleep after my epidural, which was wonderful. But when I needed help, the panic button had fallen on the floor and I was unable to stand up and get it due to the epidural. It is probably worse in my memory than it actually was at the time, but those things should be tied onto the bed so they cannot fall on the floor! Overall our experience was very good, the rooms were very clean and comfortable (one small thing- getting into a bathtub to shower in the delivery room after giving birth is extremely difficult!). The midwives and nurses were excellent and we felt in very good hands throughout our stay. I was also grateful for all the visits and info after giving birth such as the physio, lactation consultant etc. We would be happy to return to the Portland were we planning on a third baby (which we are not). Our farewell gift was also beautiful and the panda and blanket will be treasured.
