When I went to Sarah Jane I felt like my life was falling apart. One of my parents was dying, work was very stressful, my relationships were being affected. I honestly don’t know what I would have done without her support. It made such a difference, enabling me to keep going and, ultimately, to find happiness when it felt like there was none left.

When I first went to Sarah Jane for Counselling, I was sceptical about what I could achieve. I hoped it would help me move on from a painful separation and gain greater insight such that a new relationship would not repeat old patterns. I don’t discuss my feelings easily but Sarah Jane created the environment where I was able to open up – gradually at first and as trust in the relationship increased, even more as our sessions continued. She never judged me, she just helped me to voice how I felt and develop a greater understanding of the things that were holding me back. Over time, Sarah helped me to change my whole outlook on life and especially how I felt about myself – my self-worth, I began to believe I was good enough and that I actually deserved to be happy. I cannot recommend Sarah Jane enough – she is a very special lady.

Firstly I would like to commend and thank Sarah Jane for her help in getting me through a very tough time in my life helping me understand the symptoms and giving me the tools to work my way through a very emotional and stressful time. Background I had been suffering from a lot of health issue and my employer wasn't very sympathetic towards this. My colleagues had noticed that I did not seem myself over the course of a couple of months, unbeknown to me they had mentioned it to senior managers but they seemed to not take any notice. Eventually the inevitable happened and I fell apart, my wife found crying on the bed after work. My company gave my details to their occupational heath after 5 days off absent and an appointment was made with Sarah Jane. I was very sceptical about this whole thearpy issue and was in denial about having a mental health issue, but the more I saw Sarah Jane and spoke about things I started to feel lighter. Considering the first few weeks off work I hadn't seen the outside world or my friends, I just locked myself away in my bedroom and it took me time to face facts to let my mother and children know about my depression as I felt embarrassed. I never thought it would happen to me, but I now realise that mental health does not discriminate, it's not worried about colour or gender. It can affect all of us, some worse than others, I was lucky I didn't get suicidal thoughts. Sarah Jane gave me some fantastic techniques and I promise going through this process you will have ups and down and find you are very emotional but for me the 13 consultations made me stronger, not just in the mind, but heart and soul. I now know what symptoms to look out for and this makes all the difference. I had homework to do (it's not like homework at school) which makes you think about your life, love and the people around you. It made me more grateful for all those around me. I would recommend Sarah Jane to anyone who suffers or is suffering from a mental health issue and it really does work. Sometimes it really helps to talk to a complete stranger who will not judge you.

This is what we started to talk about then as I continued to have sessions, I acknowledged that there were other parts of my life that I needed to work on. Dr Sarah Jane has been able to provide me with the support and change in focus I didn’t know I needed.
