About Mr Ameet Shah
Mr Ameet Shah is a Consultant Ophthalmologist with specialist expertise in cataract and glaucoma surgery. He practises at the Royal Free Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and sees private patients at Spire Bushey Hospital, the Hospital of St John & St Elizabeth, and Royal Free London Private Patients. His clinical practice includes cataract surgery with premium lens implants, a range of laser and surgical treatments for glaucoma, and the management of general and emergency ophthalmic conditions.
Mr Shah has performed more than 2,000 cataract procedures and over 500 glaucoma laser and surgical interventions. He offers advanced treatments such as trabeculectomy, aqueous shunt surgery, PreserFlo MicroShunt, and laser procedures including selective laser trabeculoplasty and YAG laser peripheral iridotomy. He also provides cataract surgery combined with iStent® implantation for selected patients with co-existent glaucoma.
He completed his medical degree at Guy’s, King’s and St Thomas’ School of Medicine in 2001 and went on to undertake specialist training in ophthalmology across London. He completed glaucoma fellowships at St Thomas’ Hospital, King’s College Hospital, and Moorfields Eye Hospital, and was awarded an MD(Res) from Moorfields and the UCL Institute of Ophthalmology for his research into pigment dispersion syndrome and pigmentary glaucoma.
Mr Shah is active in clinical research and has participated in multi-centre glaucoma trials. He has published peer-reviewed articles and continues to contribute to the development of glaucoma services. He served as College Tutor at the Royal Free Hospital between 2019 and 2022 and currently chairs the hospital’s Glaucoma Clinical Pathway Group. He is also an accredited Educational Supervisor and is involved in the training of junior ophthalmologists.
Mr Shah speaks English and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists. He is also a member of the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons and the UK and Eire Glaucoma Society.

Mr Ameet Shah have very good and explained the procedure for my glaucoma trabeculectomy operation very clearly from start to finish and had carried out my operation perfectly . Afte..r care from him has been excellent . I think he is the best consultant who has looked after me for last 7 year.

I was very nervous about the procedure but he made me feel comfortable and reassured just before I had the procedure. Have on going issues with my eyes which I feel are under great care. from Mr Shah and his team, have requested more frequent appointments at shorter intervals as the condition seems to be deteriorating.
