I had been suffering from progressively worsening symptoms of BPH (poor flow, urgency and hesitancy) for several years. I had been taking Tamsulosin and had tried Finasteride. The Tamsulosin did help but I noticed no improvement with the Finasteride. Eventually the impact of these symptoms on my quality of life reached the point where I started to investigate surgical options. I felt many of these had fairly scary potential side effects but there seemed to be one relatively new procedure, Rezum, that seemed to have lower risks. Although this procedure is approved by NICE it is only available on the NHS from some health authorities and trusts. As it was not available from my health authority, I investigated private providers and found Raj Persad. At the initial consultation Raj discussed several surgical options but thought that the Rezum procedure would work well for the size and configuration (I had an enlarged median lobe) of my prostate. A few weeks I went to hospital as a day patient and Raj performed the procedure whilst I was under a general anaesthetic. Although I was scheduled to leave the following day, a combination of the effects of the general anaesthetic, drinking lots of water, to flush debris from the procedure through, and a poor choice of a Greek salad as an after-op meal caused me to be sick so I stayed in overnight. I went home the following morning. Raj had told me that I would have a catheter after the op and the recovery was a bit uncomfortable although I didn’t, at any point, feel that I needed to use the pain killers I was provided with. Ten days later I had the catheter removed. For the next 10 weeks or so I monitored volumes although the general trend was an improvement in symptoms there were some temporary deteriorations. After 12 weeks my symptoms are much better than they were before the procedure. My sleeping has improved as I no longer have to get up multiple times to go to the loo. I now only have to get up once, if at all. This has, my wife says, improved my mood and energy levels. My concentration at work is better as I am not being continually interrupted to go to the loo. I have just come back from a cycling holiday with my family, including a walk-up Ben Nevis. I would have found all of this very difficult if I had tried to do it before the procedure as I would have been continually thinking about the location of the nearest loo! Thanks Raj.

Raj has been absolutely instrumental in helping me with my male sexual health issues, and after 6 weeks I am very happy that significant progress has been made. I couldn't be more appreciative and would highly recommend!
